Marsala_Web2When you look back at the hot colors for the past couple of years (Tangerine Tango, Emerald, Radiant Orchid), the palettes are filled with bright shades and just a few natural undertones. Because of this, it was surprising to see the choice Color of the Year for 2015 is Marsala-an earthy red tone that closely ties to the color of Merlot or Pomegranates and is more befitting of a fall color palette.

So what lead PANTONE to decide that this rich color would be a popular color in the coming year? According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth. While Radiant Orchid, the captivating 2014 color of the year, encouraged creativity and innovation, Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability,” The Color of the Year is often chosen based on its use in fashion and Marsala is no different. Equally appealing to men and women, Marsala is flattering against many skin tones, yet, still adds a hint of sophistication through apparel, interior designs, décor and more.

Furthermore, as a natural tone, Marsala is a versatile shade that complements a variety of palettes. While previous use has overwhelmingly tied with natural colors, check out these suggested pairings from PANTONE and find inspiration below to incorporate this soon-to-be-trendy color into your events.
