Designs to Inspire at CSES2015
During the 2015 Catersource and Event Solutions Conference & Tradeshow, we were introduced to dozens of inspiring ideas from caterers and event pros from around the country.
In the Trendsetters Luncheon on Monday afternoon, design teams from Vegas showed off their innovative ideas for buffet design in the Best of Las Vegas Buffet Contest, inspiring lunch guests to think outside the box to create interactive and appealing buffets.
Of these fun displays, popular vote awarded Secret Garden by Jennifer & Friends Rio Catering Team with first place after taking an walk through their interactive garden buffet.
Second place was awarded to Quirky Digs by Destinations By Design with their traveling food cart that helps feed the community.
Third place (separated by just a few votes) was awarded to Ganesha by Jenn Salcido of Caesars Palace for her Bollywood-inspired buffet!
And wrapping up these intriguing entries, in fourth place was I Saw, I Read, I Ate by By Dzign with their clean and modern design that highlighted the use of uplighting and signage.
In the brand new Bright Idea Contest, two inspirational teams competed for first place and, ultimately, AspenPointe Catering took home the prize with their social enterprise solution that offers culinary training for students with disabilities.
Coming in a close second, Cherylle Winecott of Country Style BBQ inspired guests with her innovative Invis-a-Bib, which offers clothing protection for messy eaters!
Both teams presented creative solutions to fill voids throughout the industry.
TUESDAY / WEDNESDAY
In the Tablescape Contest, many attendees showed us their creative ideas for table settings, centerpiece décor and innovative use of materials.
Exclamations! Catering and Event Specialist swept this year’s contest, winning Best of Show and the prized Kemble’s Pick Award from America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru with their tribute to the outdoorsmen in all of us! Their display, Gone Fishing, accumulated the highest number of public votes during the Tradeshow and also tied as Steve Kemble’s favorite display.
Also winning the Kemble’s Pick Award was Vegas native The Fab Lab @AWG with their innovative twist on Steampunk. The team used mechanical parts throughout their display, It’s Time, to fully translate the theme of time travel into inspiring event décor.
In the riveting AFR Design Challenge, hosted by AFR Event Furnishings, challengers Andy Hopper and David Twigger faced off head-to-head in a live duel using mystery items from sponsors throughout the Tradeshow floor.
Their final designs were displayed through the rest of the show, allowing attendees to view the designs and vote for their favorite. Using the CSES2015 mobile app and provided tickets to vote, Andy Hopper walked away with the big win this year for his rustic country-style design.
All-in-all the contests at CSES2015 shined a light on the creative minds within our industry, and giving attendees and peers new inspiration to develop innovative designs and unique ways to repurpose old materials.
